” What’s Happening in Palestine Is ‘No Less Than a Genocide and It’s Unacceptable’: ‘I’m Terrified for All of Our Children’, she stated after explaining that her only fear is the use of her words in only one direction.
She did so before tonight’s ceremony where she will receive the Donostia Award at the 73rd San Sebastian Film Festival.
The setbacks this Friday at her meeting with the media occurred precisely when she was asked for her opinion on the film she is presenting, distributed by Mubi, a company owned by an investment fund linked to the Israeli military.
Having struck a chord with her as a mother with children, she agreed to answer.
“It’s terrible. What’s happening is nothing short of genocide, and it’s unacceptable. I’m terrified for my children, for all of our children. What saddens me is that this lack of respect and the rhetoric in current American politics will seem normal to many young people who are voting for them right now,” she said.
Nor did she hesitate to go further regarding the hot topic in the United States right now: freedom of expression.
“Yes. Our freedom of expression is under attack, and I believe that the world of film and using our voices artistically allow us, in places like this, to connect and be empathetic and free,” he concluded.
