China and Cuba presidents mark 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties

Beijing, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel, exchanged congratulatory messages on Sunday on the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, local press informed.

Xi reportedly remembered that Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to acknowledge the People’s Republic of China in 1960.

The president noted that bilateral ties have become an example of cooperation between socialist states and mutual aid between developing nations.

He added that he has maintained close communication with Diaz-Canel in the last few years and highlighted their recent meeting in Beijing during the events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Xi affirmed that he attaches great importance to the relationship with Cuba and expressed his willingness to strengthen political trust, expand cooperation, and advance in building a community with a shared future.

Xinhua news agency reported that Diaz-Canel and historic Cuban leader Raul Castro sent congratulatory messages, noting that for more than 60 years, bilateral relations have stood the test of time and continued to develop.

They also expressed the deep political mutual trust between the two sides, the close exchange of experiences in socialist construction, and the continued consolidation of traditional brotherhood and friendly and cooperative relations.
