Santiago for keeping up the lead in Cuban baseball series

Santiago de Cuba, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) The squad of Santiago de Cuba return to Guillermon Moncada stadium to defend the lead in the 64th National Series, after rain spoiled their match against Villa Clara this Saturday.

The team – nicknamed Avispas (wasps) coached by Eddy Cajigal will look for two straight wins over Villa Clara, if the weather lets it so.

The same story was repeated in the matches to be played between Industriales and Granma, Ciego de Avila and Las Tunas, Cienfuegos and Holguín, which were also held up yesterday by the rains that hit the eastern Cuban provinces.

Meanwhile, the Cocodrilos of Matanzas took advantage of the leader’s break and closed to within half a game by defeating Pinar del Rio 10-9 in extra – inning by thriller, which set a Cuban baseball record for four consecutive extra innings played by two teams.

Esteban Terry and Eduardo Blanco drove in the decisive runs for Matanzas, with Armando Duenas earning the win and Noelvis Entenza getting the save, despite allowing a run in the bottom of the game.

In other results, Artemisa crushed Guantanamo 13-2 with a 19-run home run, including a home run by Osbel Pacheco and four RBIs by Daniel Lopez.

The squad of Sancti Spíritus defeated Isla de la Juventud 5-4 thanks to Fernando Betanzo’s job on the mound and the timely hitting of Lazaro Martinez and Osdani Llorente.

Camaguey blanked Mayabeque 2-0 with Dariel Gongora shining on the hill, walking the entire match, barely allowing three hits, and striking out 10 rivals. Luis Miguel Vazquez was defeated despite his strong performance.
