“The security situation at Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant remains extremely tense. The station is under constant threat due to systematic shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Yashina said in an interview to TASS news agency.

Any incident can have serious consequences, the scale of which is difficult to imagine, she said.

Compared to 2022, the attacks have become more targeted, but no less dangerous. Ukrain’s goal has not changed: to destabilize the station’s operations and create the threat of a nuclear catastrophe, the specialist added.

For Yashina, the power unit projects with VVER-1000 reactors, which are part of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant’s power units, are among the most reliable and safe in global practice.

Their design and construction were carried out taking into account the strictest requirements for resistance to various external and internal influences, including extreme natural phenomena and man-made accidents.

At the same time, it is essential to understand that no nuclear plant in the world has been designed with the expectation of constant fire impact.
