Wazalendo militias, government allies in the fight of the armed coalition occupying part of the east of the country, launched simultaneous attacks against AFC/M23 positions, according to Actualite.CD.
The insurgents had been strengthening their presence in this area for days, as reported by local authorities and civil society organizations.
The increase in troops and equipment in different parts of North Kivu province has raised alarms about the preparation of an offensive against the DRC Armed Forces and a renewed push to gain control of other towns and communities.
Meanwhile, this Sunday, the rebels accused government-allied forces of destroying the Mpeti Bridge in Walikale territory.
In a statement, they pointed out that the air force and heavy artillery of the Congolese Army, the Burundi Defense Forces, members of the Rwandan Defense Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), Wazalendo, and mercenaries were responsible for the action, which they described as an “irresponsible act” and “deliberate sabotage.”
They considered this act intended to suffocate innocent civilians, as it has serious consequences for the free movement of people and goods in Walikale territory.
They insisted that this is yet another violation of the ceasefire established in the Declaration of Principles signed in Doha, Qatar, by both parties on July 19.
