Syrian FM reaffirms commitment to peace and reconstruction

Damascus, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani stated that his country is moving toward a stage of reconstruction, civil peace, and international openness, after overcoming years of war and domestic fragmentation.

In an interview with CNN, the head of Syrian diplomacy affirmed that the new Syria will be “a unified and civil State, open to the world and committed to civil peace,” while emphasizing that a strong and cohesive nation “will serve its people and strengthen regional stability.”

Al-Shaibani expressed his hope that the Middle East nations, particularly the Syrian people, can finally live in security and peace after years of conflict, displacement, and suffering.

He pointed out, “We want to build a language of dialogue and cooperation with everyone.”

The foreign minister criticized the unilateral coercive measures, particularly the Caesar Act and the 1979 State Sponsorship of Terrorism Act, and emphasized, “The Syrian people do not deserve to be subjected to these two resolutions.”

Al-Shaibani also underscored that sanctions should not be used as a tool for political bargaining and “the Syrian people must negotiate for their freedom, dignity, and the alleviation of their suffering.”

Syria aspires to become an authentic and strong State, representing its people and inspired by a sense of belonging and loyalty, he affirmed, adding that the country has qualified human capital, a strategic location, and a society with political and historical experience that will allow it to establish inclusive and modern governance.
