The president stated that Colombia belongs to the South Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, and therefore has no place in the organization of which it has been a global partner for eight years.
“If a North Atlantic government decides to be an ally of crimes against humanity, what do we do there? These are drastic measures, but I think they must be taken now,” he stated during a Council of Ministers meeting at the Casa de Narino.
The president also ruled out that this position entails rapprochement with the BRICS bloc because, he stated, it is made up of oil-producing nations.
As part of his speech, he assured that there will be a process of purging the diplomatic corps and intelligence officials who have been dedicated to boycotting his foreign policy, especially regarding ties with China.
In this regard, he announced the replacement of “the embassy staff in China, who sabotage relations, change my schedules, cancel appointments, without our knowledge.” He also proposed suspending the deployment of officials to the United States.
However, he asserted that he will strengthen ties with the rest of the countries in the region because “Our alliance is Latin America and the Caribbean,” he stated.
