Prensa Latina staff expresses support of Venezuela

Havana, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Staff from Latin American news agency supported Venezuela in the face of US threats and spoke out against the northern power's naval and air deployment in the Caribbean.

With their signatures, they joined the actions carried out by mass and social organizations, and Cuban civil society in general, in response to Washington’s growing hostility toward the Bolivarian government led by Nicolas Maduro, and the threat of military aggression against the South American nation.

The staff of this news agency expressed their rejection of the pretexts put forward by the US administration to subvert the transformation process in that country and seize its natural resources.

On September 18, the Revolutionary Government of Cuba issued a statement denouncing the actions of the United States that contravene the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

In the document, it condemned the attacks against civilian vessels, the murder of their crew members, and the unjustified interception and detention of a ship, in violation of international norms.

The statement noted that “the US Secretary of State, like-minded congressmen and senators, also responsible for the current genocidal escalation in Gaza, are attempting to impose their interests by force in Venezuela, which is unjustifiable and dangerous.”

In this regard, the Cuban government urged the international community to mobilize to prevent the aggression and preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace proclaimed by its heads of state and government.
