Announced by Co-President Rosario Murillo in citizen-led media outlets, the initiative aims to examine 2.5 million children, adolescents, and young people up to 20 years of age.

The strategy reportedly includes conducting screening tests in schools, technical centers, and universities, with proper parental authorization.

The aim is to identify the disease early in children and young adults, prevent it, and provide timely care through medical recommendations and specialized follow-up care.

Murillo said this is a preventive and forward-looking effort that will allow health databases to be updated and accurately determine the country’s status regarding this disease in children and young adults.

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of chronic complications globally, hence the importance of early detection.
