Uruguayan deported from the US denounces ill-treatment

Montevideo, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) Brutal detention and mistreatment were reported by a Uruguayan citizen deported by the United States after residing in the country for 25 years, according to the news outlet Subrayado.

This is the story of one of the 28 Uruguayans deported this year by President Donald Trump’s administration, 22 men and six women between 18 to 50 years old.

On condition of anonymity, he said that immigration officers pointed their guns at him as he was heading to work after helping a friend move. He admits that his visa had expired even though it was in the process of being renewed.

His family had moved to the United States in 2000, where he attended elementary school, high school, and university. He married and had children, from whom he is now separated.

He was sent to an immigration detention center, where they slept on the floor, with little water, no food, and no way to bathe, in addition to being mistreated like animals, said this deported Uruguayan.

When he arrived in Montevideo, his aunts and sister were waiting for him at the airport. “I hadn’t seen them in 25 years; they didn’t know me. I left as a baby. It’s sad for them to see me arrive like that, skinny, mistreated,” said this man, who dreams of returning to see his family and his children, one aged seven and the other two.

“The president (Donald Trump) continues deporting innocent people; he can’t continue doing this. The United States needs immigrants. We do help that country,” he concluded.
