Ecuador: Protests for the third consecutive week

Quito, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The protests in Ecuador against measures of the Government of Daniel Noboa enter their third week in the midst of a state of emergency and warnings from the indigenous movement to radicalize the mobilizations.

Faced with the declaration of the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), Marlon Vargas, about the possibility of directing the protests towards Quito if the Executive does not respond to their demands, Noboa issued a new decree of state of exception for 10 provinces.

“No one can come to take by force the capital of all Ecuadorians. Those who choose violence, the law awaits them. Those who act like criminals, will be treated as criminals,” said the president on Sunday in his account on the social network X.

For CONAIE, under the discourse of order, the Government has unleashed a systematic repression against those who exercise their constitutional right to resistance and criticized the new declaration of excepcional in the mobilized territories.

“We hold President Noboa responsible for the consequences of this authoritarian decision, which seeks to silence and repress the people in struggle. The decree suspends the freedom of assembly and intensifies the mobilization of the Armed Forces and Police”, warned Conaie.
