The shooting occurred the day before on a street in Croydon Park where there are a number of restaurants and fast food outlets.
According to Acting Superintendent Stephen Parry, between 50 and 100 bullets were fired “indiscriminately” at passers-by over a two-hour period and hit cars, buses and other random objects.
The alleged perpetrator was captured in the evening hours by the authorities, who have so far revealed few details of his identity. He is a 60 year old man, from whom several firearms were seized, including a high caliber rifle.
Forensic officers are looking for evidence this Monday in the area where the incident took place, which has surprised the community and the authorities.
