In a message published on the website of the Presidency of the Republic, Mattarella highlighted the significance of this biennial event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been held since 2003 and “is genuinely inspired by the strong human, historical, political, and economic ties that unite our countries.”
The Italian leader referred to the relevance of this meeting amid the current geopolitical landscape, which “poses increasingly complex challenges,” with “changes in global trade relations and climate change; threats to democracy, multilateralism, and the rules-based international system.”
Mattarella emphasized that in the current global context, there persists a “worrying tendency to normalize the use of force as a plausible instrument to resolve disputes between States.”
“Cooperation between continents can lead to fundamental results,” he asserted, and “actions such as the recent agreements between the European Union, Mercosur, and Mexico represent forward-looking decisions for the establishment of an international order that respects all peoples and all states.”
The Italian president expressed his confidence in the positive results of this event, organized jointly with the International Italian-Latin American Organization (IILA), which will take place on October 7th, preceded by a reception that the Foreign Ministry will offer to participants this evening.
The conference, which will open next Tuesday, will be divided into two thematic sessions: the first entitled “Economic Partnership with Latin America and the Caribbean to Boost Growth and Free Trade,” and the second on “Energy Cooperation as a Cornerstone of the Italy-Latin America and the Caribbean Partnership,” according to a statement from the Italian Foreign Ministry.
