US government shutdown: Trump puts pressure on Democrats

Washington, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) US President Donald Trump said he will only discuss a deal with Democrats to extend health care tax credits if they support the Republican funding proposal to end the government shutdown.

In a statement on his Truth Social network, Trump appeared to change his mind from his earlier comments on Monday, when he pointed out that he was open to a deal with Democrats on health care, a central issue in the debate over the federal government shutdown, which will enter its sixth day tomorrow.

According to Trump the “Democrats have SHUT DOWN the U.S. government right in the middle of one of the most successful economies, including a record stock market, that our country has ever had. This, unfortunately, has affected many programs, services and other elements of society that Americans depend on, and it should not have happened.”

“I am happy to work with Democrats on their failed health care policies, or any other issue, but first they should allow our government to reopen. In fact, they should open our government tonight!” he noted.

However, on Monday morning, from the Oval Office, he insisted that he was open to an eventual agreement with the Democrats on the health care issue.
