India, Qatar promote ambitious comprehensive economic partnership

New Delhi, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, who concludes his visit to Doha, and his counterpart Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, agreed to boost an ambitious India-Qatar comprehensive economic partnership.

Both ministers agreed to work on the first day of the joint trade commission, being held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to analyze new actions to boost bilateral trade.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties, addressing existing trade barriers and non-tariff challenges, and identifying new opportunities to boost economic cooperation in key sectors.

While praising Qatar’s energy exports, including the long-term liquefied natural gas supply agreement of 7.5 million tons per year starting in 2028, Goyal emphasized the need to boost exports between the two countries, according to sources in New Delhi.

Both officials admitted a significant untapped potential to double bilateral trade by 2030, even though the exchange hovers around 14 billion dollars.

Before the meeting, Goyal and Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani bilaterally reviewed the overall trade and economic relationship, addressed existing trade barriers, and explored new areas of cooperation in sectors such as finance, agriculture, and health, among other fields.
