To Lam’s visit to DPRK rises special significance

Hanoi, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) A special significance is attributed to the first State visit of To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in nearly two decades.

The trip, to be run from October 9 to 11, celebrates the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, the Vietnam-North Korea Friendship Year, and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).

“This visit has three significant meanings and purposes,” emphasized Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, who also praised the positive results of bilateral cooperation.

Firstly, the visit reaffirms Vietnam’s firm foreign policy of assessing relations with traditionally friendly countries, Minh Vu said, and recalled that the DPRK was one of the first countries in the world to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1950.

The deputy minister added that the trip is also a significant opportunity for the two top leaders to discuss and agree on strategic directions to promote traditional friendship, strengthen bilateral cooperation, and meet the aspirations and desires of the peoples of both countries.

Third, as an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam continues to demonstrate, with this action, its consistent support for the trends, efforts, and contributions to peace, stability, and development cooperation in the Korean Peninsula, the region, and the world, the diplomat assessed.

To Lam and Minh Vu also signed a series of bilateral cooperation agreements in the fields of culture, health, civil aviation transport, judicial assistance, investment promotion and protection, and the prevention of double taxation, and maintain a series of dialogue and cooperation mechanisms.
