Hamas and Israel enter third day of talks to end Gaza war

Cairo, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) Indirect talks between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to end the war in Gaza entered its third day on Wednesday with profound differences, although the mediators remain optimistic.

Local television reported that several prominent figures will join the meetings this Wednesday, which are taking place in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh, in the northeastern Sinai Peninsula.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer are among those figures.

Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law; and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff are also in the list.

According to several regional media outlets, such as Egyptian television station Al Qahera, the initial contacts took place in a positive atmosphere.

The talks are based on a plan presented by Trump, criticized by Hamas, which nevertheless agreed to hold talks to end the Israeli aggression.

Sources from the Islamist group revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that during the first round, a roadmap was drawn up to determine the timeline for the negotiations, with the participation of Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye, and the United States.
