Sri Lankan youth pay tribute to Che and ratify support for Cuba

Colombo, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) Young Sri Lankan socialists organized a heartfelt tribute to Ernesto Che Guevara, on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of his assassination in Bolivia, with the presence of Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Cuban Ambassador Andres Gonzalez.

As a tribute to the Heroic Guerrilla, the participants signed a banner denouncing the unilateral and punitive measures of the US government against Cuba such as the blockade imposed more than 60 years ago and the unjust inclusion of the island by Washington of alleged countries sponsoring terrorism.

In the event, the Cuban ambassador remarked the occasion as propitious to underline the development and achievements attained by the Revolution and the Cuban people in areas such as education, health, sports and social justice. He pointed out that these revolutionary conquests are hindered by the genocidal blockade policy imposed on Cuba by the United States government for more than six decades, the most unjust, severe and prolonged system of unilateral sanctions ever applied against a country.

The diplomat also deeply appreciated the support of Cuba, which can count on a solidarity movement in Sri Lanka, especially in permanent support for the struggle against the U.S. blockade.
