Haiti calls for transforming emergency into hope

Port-au-Prince, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) Ann-Kathryne Lassègue, Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations, called for transforming the current emergency in the Caribbean nation into hope for future generations.

Lassègue assessed the grim situation in her country, where violence continues to weigh heavily on daily life.

She called for international solidarity and expressed her gratitude for the United Nations’ allocation of nine million US dollars to Haiti.

The ambassador advocated for greater support for education, health, and food security, according to the Haiti Libre newspaper.

Lassègue, at the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, defended the theory that when a child learns, social violence decreases.

He called on the international community to transform the emergency into hope, assistance into effective rights, and future survival, recalling that respect for human rights remains at the heart of development and security, the newspaper reported.
