Colombian exports make inroads into Asian markets

Bogota, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) Colombia successfully exported chicken to Japan for the first time, marking a milestone for the country's economic and social development, according to experts.

The National Federation of Poultry Farmers informed that Colombia reached the sanitary approval from the Japanese government in 2015, but it wasn’t until a decade later that sales were finally done.

According to the president of the association, Gonzalo Moreno, “Entering the Japanese market is a clear sign of confidence in our production system and opens new opportunities for poultry farming.”

For her part, the general manager of the Colombian Agricultural Institute, Paula Cepeda, asserted that her organization is working to maintain trust with international markets.

Colombia also recently received official approval to export bovine collagen and gelatin to the Republic of Korea.

As a result of the bilateral work, the authorities of both countries agreed to implement an Export Health Inspection Certificate, a document that will guarantee compliance with high health, safety, and traceability standards.

The Director General of Colombia’s National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance, Francisco Rossi, highlighted the value of the certificate’s approval for the diversification of the national export market, which contributes to strengthening Colombia’s presence in Asian markets and opening new growth opportunities for the food industry.
