Cuban Film Institute at the forefront of French cinema

Havana, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) is preparing to once again open its doors to the French Film Festival, which returns to this capital in October.

This event is one of the most important held in Havana and with the largest attendance after the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

This will be the 26th edition of the French Film Festival and features a collection of premieres, animated films, and a tribute to actor Jean Gabin (1904-1976), also a singer, considered a key figure in Cuban cinema and the star of several classic films.

Gabin’s films that were successful in the 1930s will be screened at the Cuban festival.

This French actor twice won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice International Film Festival, respectively.

Gabin was named a member of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his important role in French cinema, and the annual festival held from October 15 to 26 in Havana will pay tribute to his extensive career and to his figure, an essential cinema figure in that European country.
