Cuban Literature jubilee features writer Virgilio Lopez Lemus

Havana, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Literature Jubilee program, hosted by journalist and critic Fernando Rodriguez Sosa, will be held on Wednesday at the Fayad Jamis bookstore in this capital, featuring poet, essayist, and professor Virgilio Lopez Lemus.

During the event, attendees could purchase the poetry collection “Cuatro Copas Llenas” (Four Full Cups) by Lopez Lemus, recently published by the Letras Cubanas publishing house.

Violinist Alejandro Torres, a graduate of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory and professor at the same school, will perform at the event.

Graduated at the University of Havana with a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature (1975) and a PhD in Philological Sciences (1989), Lopez Lemus is the author of nearly 100 works, including books, anthologies, compilations, and pamphlets.

His bibliography includes, among other titles, the collection of poems “Un Leve Golpe de Aldaba” (A Slight Knock of the Knocker); the essay “Narciso, Las Aguas y El Espejo.

Una Especulación Sobre La Poesia” (Narcissus, the Waters, and the Mirror. A Speculation on Poetry), with which he won the Millares Carlo International Essay Prize, the Research and Humanities Award from the National University of Distance Education -Government of the Canary Community; and the anthology “Doscientos Años de Poesia Cubana 1790-1990.

Cien Poemas Antologicos” (Two Hundred Years of Cuban Poetry 1790-1990. One Hundred Anthological Poems).

For his literary work, Lopez Lemus has received several awards, including the Annual Prize of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, the Scientific-Technical Critics Prize, the Enrique Jose Varona UNEAC Essay Prize, and the Alejo Carpentier Essay Prize.
