Cuba among first signatories of Convention against Cybercrime (+Photo)

Hanoi, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuba became one of the first signatory countries to the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, the opening ceremony of which took place at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

The so-called Hanoi Convention, adopted in December 2025 after five years of intense negotiations, was signed by Cuban Minister of Justice Oscar Silvera.

The document consists of nine chapters and 71 articles that define cybercrimes and establish mechanisms for international cooperation in the areas of investigation, extradition, confiscation and management of criminal assets, witness protection, and victim support, among other aspects.

Silvera met the day before with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Hai Ninh, who affirmed that, despite the many changes that have occurred in the world, friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba remain unchanged and are increasingly strengthened and consolidated.

The Vietnamese official also expressed satisfaction that both parties signed an agreement in Havana last August on the implementation of the Technical Assistance Project for the Cuban Ministry of Justice to strengthen its capacity for lawmaking and enforcement.

Silvera, for his part, commented that the Cuban side is actively working to approve the Project and pledged to coordinate the development of various activities in 2026, including the exchange of delegations, conferences, seminars, and research on legal issues.
