Jointly approved in December 2024 by the first committees of the Senate and the House, the text of the initiative will contribute to compliance with the Final Peace Agreement signed in 2016 between the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the Government, the Agriculture Ministry stated.
The legislation addresses, among other issues, land ownership and tenure, agrarian servitudes, land demarcation and boundary marking, and conflicts arising from agricultural activities, among others.
The proposal also establishes special judicial procedures that aim to be expeditious and provide guarantees to support the application of efficient and accessible justice for rural communities.
In the Executive’s opinion, the approval of the law would greatly help address inequality in land distribution, which is one of the leading causes of conflict and poverty in Colombia.
