The AUC Chairperson expressed his appreciation for the leaders’ victories and reaffirmed the African Union’s commitment to supporting these countries in their efforts to consolidate democratic governance, stability, and sustainable development.
Youssouf praised the Ivorian people’s participation in the elections and the work of the relevant institutions in conducting the process. He also encouraged all political and social actors to maintain their commitment to peace, dialogue, and national cohesion.
Regarding Tanzania, he deeply regretted the loss of life during the post-election protests and expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
The President of the AUC stressed the need to respect fundamental rights and freedoms, including the right to peaceful assembly and expression, and urged the authorities to safeguard these rights within the framework of the law.
He also called on citizens to exercise their rights peacefully and responsibly.
In his message, Youssouf remembered the principles of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, particularly respect for the rule of law, human rights, fundamental freedoms, and political pluralism, which are the pillars of democratic and stable societies.
