Haiti declares State of Emergency due to impact of Melissa

Port-au-Prince, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) The Haitian government has declared a State of Emergency, which will help accelerate recovery efforts following the devastation caused by the rains associated with Hurricane Melissa, local media reported.

This measure will be implemented in the departments of Sud, Sud-Est, Grand-Anse, Nippes, Ouest, and Nord-Ouest.

It will be in effect for three months, extending until February 3, 2026, according to the digital news site Noticias Kominotek.

This decision will facilitate relief operations, accelerate assistance to affected communities, and gradually resume activities in the hardest-hit regions, particularly in the Grand South, where the damage is most extensive.

Authorities emphasized that this exceptional response is necessary to meet the urgent needs of the population.
