Ankara rejects European Commission report on Türkiye

Ankara, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) The Turkish government rejected the claims contained in the Türkiye 2025 Report published by the European Commission, particularly those concerning the judiciary, fundamental rights, and the country's internal political situation.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ankara stressed that the report’s assessments are “incompatible with efforts to establish a positive agenda between Türkiye and the European Union” and are worded “contradicting the long-term interests of both parties.”

The statement emphasized that the degree of alignment with EU standards, as reflected in the document, constitutes “the clearest proof of Türkiye’s commitment to its strategic goal of accession,” despite political obstacles and restrictions considered unfair in the accession process.

The Ministry welcomed the report’s references to Türkiye’s firm commitment to an efficient market economy and the soundness of its macroeconomic policies, as well as the improved diplomatic climate in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Ankara also expressed satisfaction with the recognition of Türkiye’s constructive stance in its relations with Greece and the increased political dialogue with the European Union.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the need for the EU to manage its relations with Türkiye based on the principles of neutrality, mutual respect, and a constructive approach, avoiding conditioning cooperation on bilateral issues.
