Indonesia to expand food program to include the elderly and disabled

Jakarta, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf proposed to President Prabowo Subianto extending the Free Nutritious Meals program to senior citizens and people with disabilities, a measure currently slated for implementation in 2026.

During a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, the minister explained that, if the measure is approved, these groups would continue to receive state support as part of the national social protection and security system.

The program is one of the Prabowo administration’s priorities and was launched in January 2025 to benefit more than 82 million people, including pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, children, and students across the country.

As of the end of October, about 40 million Indonesians in 38 provinces had benefited from the initiative, which aims to improve nutrition from pregnancy through early childhood.

The president also discussed with several ministers the coordination of community development policies and support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
