It aims to alleviate the consequences of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade that the United States imposes on the Cuban population and which, above all, negatively impacts the health sector.
A key part of the campaign is the “Fidel Castro” brigade, in which workers, students, and retirees will travel to the island with their cargo of supplies, medicines, and other materials.
The Coordinating Committee for Support to the Cuban Revolution, the PIT-CNT trade union, and the Federation of Uruguayan University Students are participating in the initiative, which aims to contribute to the development of the Cuban public health system.
The mission’s objective has become important after Hurricane Melissa, which caused severe material damage in eastern Cuba.
The brigade’s campaign slogan is “No to the blockade! Cuba lives and resists.”
According to its organizers, it reflects the historical bonds of brotherhood between the two peoples.
