The Budapest peace summit will take place. What is still unknown is whether it will be the meeting where the solution is found or just an important step towards peace, the head of government noted.
Orban maintained that, in his opinion, Russia and the United States still need to resolve “one or two issues” to finalize the meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
If these are resolved, the peace summit could be held in Budapest within days, and from then on, depending on what is agreed upon, a ceasefire could be declared and peace [in Ukraine] achieved, the Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized.
On October 16, US President Donald Trump, after a conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, announced a possible summit between the two leaders, likely within the next two weeks in Hungary, to address the Ukrainian crisis and the state of US-Russian relations.
Almost a week later, the US president changed his mind and declared that he was “canceling” the meeting. Putin, for his part, indicated that it was more of a postponement.
