On that day, Ecuadorians will decide whether to convene a Constituent Assembly to draft a new Constitution, on the installation of foreign military bases, reducing the number of assembly members, and eliminating public funding for political parties.
This Thursday, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) will march through the streets of the capital with its “Chaski for No” (a traditional Ecuadorian messenger).
This march, for rights and life, has already passed through several provinces of the country and will now proceed with traditional ceremonies and cultural performances from southern Quito to the north of the city in rejection of the consultation process.
“We’ve been deceived enough already.
We’re going to the polls and we’re going to say No to this rigged, fraudulent referendum,” stated Marlon Vargas, president of CONAIE.
Other social groups will also carry out actions in different parts of the country to promote voting against President Noboa’s proposals, which they argue are part of neoliberal policies that threaten hard-won rights and jeopardize national sovereignty.
