China: Latin Americans promote Global South voice and multipolarity

Shanghai, China, Nov 13 (Prensa Latina) Researchers, journalists, and activists from Latin America analyzed in this city on Thursday the rise of the Global South, while advocating for a multipolar and inclusive world that breaks with Western hegemony.

During the Global South Academic Forum, Mexican researcher Ana Esther Ceceña stressed the importance of breaking with cultural hegemony and creating more spaces for dialogue like this one that involve actors from different parts of the world.

Ceceña offered an overview of the rise and subsequent structural crisis of the power of the United States and the collective West after World War II.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Randy Alonso, Director General at IDEAS Multimedios in Cuba, underscored the importance of upholding the commitment to “a different world, of peace and dialogue, against fascism and xenophobia.”

In this regard, Alonso said that this Global South Academic Forum promotes inclusion and confronts the media war waged primarily by the United States.

Tica Moreno, representative of the National Coordinating Body of the World March of Women, noted that the forum allows for developing shared perspectives on history and current challenges, including the technological dispute between China and the United States regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and its regulation.

Carlos Ron, a Venezuelan professor, took the opportunity to denounce and condemn in the plenary session the attacks by the United States on vessels in the Caribbean, which have brought the imminent threat of war to the region.

The Global South Academic Forum brought together more than 200 participants from 29 countries, focused on the 80th anniversary of the victory against global fascism, the post-war international order, and the challenges facing the Global South.
