Palestinian groups reject deployment of foreign troops in Gaza

Ramallah, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) Palestinian groups in Gaza Strip rejected the deployment of foreign forces in the territory as part of a peace agreement, after arguing that it paves the way for foreign control.

The factions criticized in a joint statement a draft US resolution submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which will be voted on this Monday.

They pointed out that the deployment of troops from other countries opens the door to a biased view in favor of Israel.

They stated that the US proposal is an attempt to reform the administration and reconstruction of Gaza through a supranational international body with broad powers, which would lead to the exclusion of Palestinians from managing their affairs.

They also demanded that “any humanitarian effort must be channeled exclusively through the competent Palestinian institutions and under the supervision of the United Nations and relevant international organizations.”

The groups called for respect for Palestinian sovereignty and the needs of the population in the coastal enclave.
