Venezuela congrats Ecuadorians on referendum’s victory

Caracas, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil congratulated the Ecuadorian people on Sunday's referendum victory, which they are celebrating this Monday, and represents a major defeat for President Daniel Noboa.

The high-ranking diplomat wrote on his Telegram channel, “A Great Victory for the Dignity of Ecuador: The people of Manuela Saenz and Eloy Alfaro.”

Gil underscored that from the land of Simon Bolivar, “we send a heartfelt embrace and congratulate the Ecuadorian people, heirs of great patriot and revolutionary Manuela Saenz and General Eloy Alfaro.”

The foreign minister emphasized that the people rose overwhelmingly to say NO to the “defeatist policies promoted by a corrupt government linked to drug trafficking, achieving a historic political victory.”

He stated that Ecuador showed its greatness, embarking on the path toward regaining popular victories and a new stage of struggle against those who have sought to destroy it through corruption, violence, and subjugation.

With a turnout exceeding 80 percent of voters, the Ecuadorian people took to the streets on Sunday to vote overwhelmingly NO, in a result unexpected by the government.

With nearly 90 percent of the votes counted, 60.54 percent of the population rejected on the establishment of foreign military bases in the country, 58.04 percent opposed the reduction in the number of assembly members, 53.45 percent objected to public funding for political parties, and 61.58 percent rejected the proposal to convene a Constituent Assembly.
