During the event, held in 11 theaters, four universities, and other cultural venues, a tribute will be paid to the legacy of Alfredo Guevara, founder of the Cuban Film Institute and its leader from 1959 to 1983, and also president of the Havana Film Festival for almost 25 years.

There will also be a showcase of films produced by Cuban women, featuring films such as “Why Do My Friends Cry?” (2018), by Magda Gonzalez; “The Return” (2018), by Blanca Rosa Blanco; “A Night with the Rolling Stones” (2024), by Patricia Ramos, and “Wedding Dress” (2014), by Marilyn Solaya, are among the highlights.

Another major presentation will be the screeing of the documentary “Mijain” (2025), on the Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez, who to date is the only athlete in the history of the modern Olympic Games to win five consecutive gold medals in the same individual event.

The film, which offers an intimate look at the wrestler’s life and training, is directed by Rolando Almirante, Angel Alderete, and sports journalist Hector Villar.

The festival also anticipates the participation of filmmakers from Spain, the United Kingdom, the Balkan countries, Brazil, the United States, Argentina, and Mexico. The festival will end on November 26.
