Zimbabwe’s altruistic solidarity to Cuba after Hurricane Melissa

Harare, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) Solidarity and altruism have been the hallmarks of donations from Zimbabwe to Cuba following the powerful Hurricane Melissa's passage through eastern Cuba.

A businessman friendly to the island, members of the Cuban diplomatic mission, collaborators from higher education institutions, and a Cuban resident in the African nation contributed resources for the delivery of medicines and medical equipment.

The “Cuba Must Be Loved” project received an initial shipment that was delivered to the eastern province of Holguín, one of the areas most affected by Melissa, as a testament to the altruism of those who, from afar, demonstrate solidarity.

Sphygmomanometers, trocars, three-way stopcocks, urine collection bags, and paracetamol, among other items, were part of the initial donation for the care of those affected in eastern Cuba.

Medicines such as acetaminophen, metamizole, and vitamin C were added to the modest humanitarian aid shipment, which supplements the supplies sent from more than 27 countries across five continents to help repair the damage caused by the recent hurricane. According to Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, the aid received is a valuable complement while the State assumes the main efforts for the recovery of the affected provinces and communities.

Additionally, members of the 14th Cuban Medical Brigade in Zimbabwe made direct donations to communities in eastern Cuba.
