Brazil’s PT calls for arrest of coup-plotter congressman

Brasilia, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's ruling Workers' Party (PT) has requested the preventive detention of Congressman Alexandre Ramagem, convicted of attempted coup and currently residing in Miami, United States.

The request was submitted to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) by the PT leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias, who denounced the congressman’s escape.

Ramagem received a sentence of 16 years, one month, and 15 days in prison as part of the investigation into the attempted coup against democracy.

Lindbergh published the statements on social media and detailed the measures already taken.

In the text, he states that he filed a request with the STF denouncing the legislator’s escape, “the use of an irregular passport, the violation of precautionary measures, and the concrete risk to the application of criminal law.”

The PT leader also demanded in the statement that Ramagem’s name be included on Interpol’s red list.

Furthermore, he called for Ramagem’s extradition to Brazil to serve his sentence after the final ruling.

According to the PT member, his escape to the United States is incompatible with complying with the court sentences imposed on the convicted congressman.
