As in previous years, the University of Havana will host a political and cultural event, which will serve as the main tribute to the man who led the revolutionary movement on the island that, in 1959, ousted dictator Fulgencio Batista from power.
Organized by the Federation of University Students, the tribute on the university steps is just one of the events planned, with the same purpose, in almost every corner of Cuba.
Fidel Castro’s legacy will be commemorated at Casa de las Americas through a discussion among artists and intellectuals organized by several institutions and organizations, including the Cuban chapter of the Network of Intellectuals, Artists, and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity.
According to the announcement, the meeting at that Havana institution will feature the online participation of renowned intellectuals from around the world who were close friends of Fidel Castro.
The human and historical significance of his thought and governance, as well as the enduring relevance of his legacy in Cuba, will be the subject of discussion.
From Pinar del Rio to Guantanamo, on the Isle of Youth, and at Cuban diplomatic missions, tributes to Fidel, as he is commonly known in Cuba, began before the event.
