Tensions rise in Haiti’s political leadership

Port-au-Prince, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) Tensions are rising within Haiti's political leadership as some seek to oust Prime Minister Alix Didier from power, while others believe such a move would be a misstep in the current political landscape of the Caribbean nation.

This change at the top of the government, almost two months before February 7, 2026, would be a serious blow to the efforts already underway to restore security and organize elections,” Laurent Saint-Cyr, head of Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), argued.

The CPT leader explained that certain adjustments can always be considered to revitalize government action, but at this stage, he cannot support a decision that disrupts the balance and weakens an already proven institution.

If that were to happen, he added, the minimum stability necessary to complete the transition would be jeopardized.

The CPT must return Haiti to the path of dignity, democratic legitimacy, stability, and sovereignty, and guarantee the proper functioning of state institutions, Saint-Cyr stated, as quoted by the newspaper Le Nouvelliste.
