“In case the WhatsApp messenger does not comply with the requirements of Russian law, it will be blocked completely,” the entity said in a statement released to the press this Friday.

The executive revealed that it is consistently implementing restrictive measures against WhatsApp.

“The gradual downgrading of WhatsApp calls began in August, and the imposition of restrictions against WhatsApp will continue,” the agency said.

The body directly accused the courier service of facilitating illegal activities, alleging that the messenger is used to organize and carry out terrorist acts on the territory of the country, in order to recruit its executioners, and to commit scams and other crimes against Russian citizens.

The authorities concluded with a recommendation to use national courier services.
