The celebration, led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, reaffirmed the mutual trust, brotherhood, and solidarity between the peoples of both countries, their parties, and governments, and highlighted the deep-rooted relationship, the Cuban Presidency reported.

According to the source, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez remembered the numerous occasions on which the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, emphasized the achievements of Lao people, who suffered from U.S. aggression during the years of the Indochina invasion in the 1960s and 1970s.

He stated that Cuba will always remember the atrocities committed by the United States Army, which mercilessly bombed the Laotian population, and the long lines of women, children, and the elderly seeking caves as shelters.

Caves — he pointed out — where Cuba’s solidarity also reached through the Moncada heroine Melba Hernandez, who lived through those circumstances, the same ones met by the small Cuban medical brigade that eased the suffering of that distinguished people while the People’s Army continued its unstoppable march toward victory.

For his part, the ambassador of Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Cuba, Vanhtha Sengmeuang, thanked the commemoration of the anniversary and rememebered tha Lao people are a nation with a history of birth, stability, and development in Southeast Asia, in the heart of the Indochina peninsula, inscribed in history for thousands of years.

Our relations, the Laotian diplomat said, are based on socialist ideals and the long tradition of cooperation between the two parties, states and peoples, which has been a clear example of continuous promotion, growth and flourishing.
