Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed informed on social media about the “fruitful” cooperation with ECA Executive Secretary Claver Gatete and the ongoing efforts to ensure that the 32nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32) is truly African.
Ahmed voiced confidence that the technical expertise of the UN regional commission and its institutional presence across the continent will play a significant role in the lead-up to the conference.
The publication underscored, “I am confident that the ECA, along with the executive secretary and his team, will contribute greatly to making COP32 a remarkable success for Africa.”
Ethiopia received approval to host the important meeting during COP30, held in Belem, Brazil, in November, following strong support from the African Negotiating Group and broad backing from the international community.
Since then, Addis Ababa has stated that the event will serve as a platform to disseminate Africa’s climate priorities, strengthen global cooperation on adaptation and mitigation, and showcase national and continental green development initiatives.
