Cuban chef Santiago Gutierrez honored in Mexico

Havana, Dec. 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban chef Santiago Gutierrez received the Yucatecan Ancestral Cuisine Medal in Merida, Mexico, according to a message received in Havana.

The Central American and Caribbean Digital Newspaper circulated a report on the event, highlighting the economic and tourism ties between that Mexican region and Cuba.

The report points out that in a ceremony held at the Cuban consulate in Merida, Cuban chef Santiago Gutierrez, first vice president of the Culinary Federation of the Republic of Cuba (FCRC), was recognized with the aforementioned medal.

The ceremony took place during the recently concluded International Congress of Master Chefs of Ancestral Cuisine and Gastronomic Festival, held at the Siglo XXI venue in Merida on November 28 and 29.

The ambassador and promoter of the Congress, Chef Pedro Jose Estrada, expressed his honor in presenting the Ancestral Cuisine Medal to Chef Santiago Gutierrez.

This award recognized his work and served as a symbol of the ties between Cuba and Mexico.

He expressed his gratitude for Cuba’s ongoing support of these Congresses, which aim to preserve the customs and traditions of ancestral cuisine.

In his remarks, Chef Gutierrez thanked the organizers for the recognition and remembered the warm welcome he received upon arriving in Merida, underscoring the importance of these events, which bring together culinary masters from various countries, especially as Cuba prepares to host the Congress in 2027.
