Under the general direction of ballet mistress Laura Alonso, the “Alonso Forever” Gala Performance celebrates the legacy of Alicia, Fernando, and Alberto, three fundamental figures of Cuban dance, pillars of the Cuban School of Ballet and the National Ballet of Cuba.
“My uncle Alberto insisted that the sensual movements of Latinos, especially Cubans, be included in dance; my father studied various schools and returned to Cuba to create the methodology for the ballet school, and my mother demonstrated that dream, that idea of the three of us,” Laura Alonso said in a video released before the performance.
The program includes the celebrated pas de deux from Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, the Black Swan from Swan Lake, and Giselle, as well as The Dying Swan and Carmen.
