Calm prevails on the Cambodia-Thailand border after agreement

Phon Penh, Dec 28 (Prensa Latina) Calm prevails on the border between Cambodia and Thailand, following the ceasefire agreement reached at the third Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC).

According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, “the situation on the front line remains calm.”

In a press conference, the spokesperson emphasized that Cambodian forces fully respect this agreement, but remain steadfast and vigilant to continue monitoring the ceasefire.

For his part, and in statements amplified by the AKP news agency, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, General Tea Seiha, expressed his hope that Thailand will act with transparency and good faith in implementing the agreements reached yesterday.

Full compliance with the agreement is essential to guarantee the safety of troops and civilians on both sides, he emphasized.

Seiha remembered that, according to the Joint Declaration signed by him and his Thai counterpart, General Nattaphon Narkphanit, at the Third Special Meeting of the GBC, the ceasefire applies to all types of weapons, including attacks against civilians, civilian property and infrastructure, and military targets of both sides, in all cases and areas.
