International Congress on Thousand Cities sccessfully ends in Havana

Havana, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban academic and cultural community is celebrating the success of the 12th International Meeting on Culture, Communication, Marketing, and Community, following intense sessions in the capital dedicated to Thousand Cities and the Creative Economy.

The congress, held at the National Institute of Economic Research (INIE), was sponsored by Plaza de la Revolucion Cultural District, the International Center for Innovation and Development of Thousand Cities of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil (CIIDCMIL-USP), and the Center for Studies in Evaluation and Measurement of Communication and Marketing.

“The objectives were met; we sought to disseminate information about Thousand Cities, how to build happier cities with the support of communication, combating cultural barriers and narratives of hate,” explained Felipe Chibas-Ortiz, executive coordinator of CIIDCMIL-USP, in an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina.

It included panels on media literacy, the creative economy, institutional and family ethics, as well as aspects related to gender issues, health promotion, robotics and other new technologies, and guidance for developing projects linked to the central theme, added the professor from the University of Sao Paulo.

On January 22 and 23, prominent figures participated in discussions: intellectual Miguel Barnet; the president of the Cuban Association of Social Communicators, Rosa Maria Gutierrez; the director of the National Institute of Economic Research, Maile Yiser; and the vice-rector of the University of Zaragoza (Spain), Carmen Marta-Lazo.

Leading figures from nine other countries participated both in person and virtually, along with members of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Among those participating from UNESCO were the director of its Paris office, Alton Grizzle; The director of the Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue Network (UNESCO MILID), Manuel Perez Tornero, and the organization’s senior specialist in Communication and Media Literacy in Cuba, Elena Napoles, were present.

The program also included the presentation of the book “Thousand Cities: Challenges and Solutions for Sustainable Development in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” and the cartoon exhibition “Thanks to the Thousand Cities” by Brazilian artist Dorinho Bastos.
