Myanmar and Thailand strengthen border security and trade

Yangon, Jan 27 (Prensa Latina) The Governments of Myanmar and Thailand signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security, trade, and border stability.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying joint actions against telephone fraud, illegal online gambling, drug trafficking, and illicit trade in border areas, which they consider shared national responsibilities.

They also agreed to expedite the reopening of border crossings to normalize trade flows, as well as coordinate efforts to restore peace and support the development of the multi-party electoral process in Myanmar.

Vice Chairman of Myanmar’s State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC), Senior Vice General Soe Win, and Thailand’s Ambassador, Mongkol Visitstump, chaired the meeting.

Deputy Foreign Minister U Ko Ko Kyaw and Director General U Thet Win, along with officials from the Thai Embassy, also participated.
