The representative recalled that Mexico has recognized Palestine as a nation and classified this territory as very important.
“Within the framework of our Constitution, we have to answer, because it is not a personal decision, and within the framework of our Constitution is the self-determination of peoples.
As soon as the answer is there, we will let you know,” he said, adding that it would be known this week.
Initially foreseen as a component of Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip (after an offensive perpetrated by Israel with more than 70,000 dead), the Council later expanded its scope, and even left out any mention of that territory.
That and other controversial issues related to the initiative have made it perceived internationally as a tool in competition with the United Nations and subordinated to Washington’s interests.
