Russia and China boost bilateral ties in defense

Moscow, Jan 27 (Prensa Latina) Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belosov and his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Dong Jun, today discussed actions to further boost bilateral ties in military matters.

During the videoconference meeting, both military leaders discussed security issues following a series of events in the first few days of this year that affected the international situation, including events in Venezuela and Iran.

“Since our last meeting in June of last year in Qingdao, many events have taken place that have significantly influenced the international situation. The examples of Venezuela and Iran require our ministries to organize a permanent analysis of the situation in the field of security and the adoption of corresponding measures”, stressed Belousov.

For his part, the Chinese admiral stated that, given the changing global environment, contacts between the Russian and China defense portfolios “are very timely and important”.

“The armed forces of our countries are clearly implementing the important agreements reached by the heads of our States and have achieved further success in the areas of exchange of high delegations, joint exercises, the patrolling and exchange of experience in different specialties”, summarized Jun.

Both leaders agreed that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing is progressing gradually, and that a key role in strengthening bilateral cooperation is played by the special relations between the Russian and Chinese leaders, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, respectively.

“Last year’s meetings between heads of state gave a new and powerful impetus to the deepening of ties of friendship among nations,” said the Russian defense minister.
