Starmer’s visit to China is a new step in bilateral rapprochement

Beijing, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) British Ambassador to China, Peter Wilson, stated on Wednesday that the United Kingdom seeks to raise relations with Beijing based on mutual respect and trust, on Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit.

Wilson stated at a press briefing that both countries must “do things together” and work toward a stable relationship with dialogue mechanisms and concrete actions.

The diplomat underscored that London aspires to maintain “stable and consistent” ties with Beijing for long-term considerations and not for short-term interests.

Starmer begins an official visit this Wednesday until January 31 and will be the first British head of Government to visit China since February 2018.

Since he became prime minister in July 2014, bilateral relations have shown an improving trend with high-level delegation exchanges and ongoing dialogue.

Ambassador Wilson stated that the United Kingdom attaches great importance to its relations with China, Europe, and the United States, and maintains active dialogue with all parties.

During the visit, cooperation agreements on trade and investment are expected to be signed to create new avenues for growth in bilateral economic exchanges.
